Our Volunteers
As a volunteer-driven organization, we have a variety of options for those wishing to support our endeavours.

Providing curriculum support — including planning course options and helping to organize the lecture series

Serving on an executive committee and providing leadership

Helping with communications — including creating course guides, advertisements and information for our members and the general public

Assisting members — including helping with course registration or technology-related issues or welcoming attendees at our events

Current Volunteer Opportunities
We currently have three vacant volunteer positions which we are seeking to fill. All volunteer positions come with support materials to help familiarize you with the role, as well as in-person mentoring from experienced committee members.
SUBJECT COORDINATOR, CURRICULUM COMMITTEE: •Compile a list of potential course leaders in the area of History and Social Science and contact them to determine possible topics •Work with course leaders to complete a digital Course Information Form and to communicate via email using standardized templates •Maintain contact with course leaders during the term and when their course is finished by having them send out a course participant survey and a course leader survey •Attend a two hour monthly committee meeting, August through May, with an additional 2-4 hours per month in September/October and February to April for recruiting and finalizing the program for each term.
MEMBER SUPPORT COMMITTEE: •Provide support and hospitality for CVEC members at such events as the Information Forum, Registration Day, the Lecture series, the Annual General Meeting and the Volunteer Appreciation event •Oversee check-in of attendees at both the Lecture series and the Annual General Meeting •Distribute paper copies of the Course Guide throughout the valley in September and in January
PHOTOGRAPHER, COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE: •Provide personal camera. Time requirement will vary. •As opportunities arise, take photographs of Comox Valley ElderCollege members, presenters and volunteers to be used for future publicity •Contact course presenters at the beginning of classes to inform them that photos may be taken in their classroom. Also, announce in public forums and lectures that photos may be taken and to let the photographer know if they don’t wish for their photos to be taken •Store photos on shared OneDrive for use by ElderCollege Committee members
